A Monday update from Pastor Bob!
Good afternoon folks, I hope you all have weathered “Little Debby” and no one has had to start work on an Ark!
I woke up feeling better today. That’s due to a lot of sleep, and my relief over how you all stepped up to cover for me on Sunday morning!
After getting a positive (Covid) test result on Saturday evening, I called Bernice who was the liturgist, and we talked over options. Replacing the sermon with a hymn-sing, postponing Communion, etc. Bernice offered to preach my sermon, but she also suggested I talk with Mary Beth…
I called Mary Beth, who agreed with our plans, but she too offered to preach my sermon…
I called John Leschak who said, “Of course, we can do an impromptu, hymn-sing, no problem,” but suggested I call Debbie Pangrass…
I called Debbie and she said, “I’d be honored to preach and lead communion!”
Folks, you all are amazing – every single person I spoke with responded by offering to help, and every Session member responded by email to my request to authorize Debbie to preach and serve communion. I am truly grateful.
It is not easy to “preach” someone else’s words, but Debbie made it her own, and did a great job with the sermon and leading the sacrament. I watched the sermon on Facebook and could not have been prouder!
Now, as to this week:
I woke up feeling better today – I ran a low-grade fever yesterday, but that’s gone. According to the most current CDC guidelines persons with a positive Covid-19 should stay home until they are fever-free w/o medication for at least 24 hours, and their symptoms have been improving for 24 hours. The CDC no longer mandates a five-day quarantine; however, they do recommend taking additional precautions for the next five days, such as limiting contact, and masking. (https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2024/p0301-respiratory-virus.html)
Therefore, I plan to work from home for most of this week, but I am available by phone, text, and email. My plan, health permitting and with your permission, is to be present in worship next Sunday. I am happy to mask if you feel that is most appropriate.
If there is anything else we need to discuss and decide on, please reply all to this email. And if you had contact with me last week, please watch yourself for symptoms. I truly hope I didn’t pass this on to anyone else in the church. I spoke with my wife who works in an Emergency Room, and she said they have seen a spike in Covid cases beginning in June but it’s slowing down now. So be safe, and take care.
Blessings,
-Pastor Bob
