Hello, friends and members of FKPC, including the Crossroads II class —
Check out this exciting field trip π!
On Thursday, June 20, we have been invited to an open house of the Neighborhood Co-op at First United Methodist of Sanford.
This open and affirming FUMC congregation has taken a creative approach to the issue of βredefining Church.β Similar to Ft. King, they have a large facility with a smallish membership. Their recently-empty Christian Education building now houses a number of wonderful nonprofits, including the award-winning Picnic Project (Picnic Project | Healing Mealing | Sanford Nonprofit), Kairos (a musical group of differently abled adults), and several others. This downtown church has a sign out front announcing βLove Thy Neighborhood,β and they stay in close contact with the city and other resources in order to keep abreast of the communityβs needs.
The official open house will run from noon til 3:00; however, it has been suggested that we arrive earlier in order to observe β and perhaps volunteer with β the group preparing for the weekly Picnic Project distribution that occurs every Friday. Lunch plans are still TBA β We will either eat on the church grounds, or at one of the nearby cafes. Weather permitting, we should also have a chance to walk or relax along the gorgeous Sanford River Walk.

We will plan to meet at the church at 8:30 on the 20th, and caravan to Sanford from there (times subject to change).
If you are interested, please let me know ASAP, and no later than June 14.
Looking forward to a fun, educational, and inspiring trip!
Thanks,
