I sure am glad I wasn’t the teacher for the snake in a lunchbox.  There would have been a new door in that classroom as I fled!

Life is full of surprises.  Some are good and some are not so good.  We are feted at a surprise birthday party.  We may be visited by someone we haven’t seen for a while.  We may be recipients of a gift.  Those are examples of good surprises.  Bad surprise’s?  How about an unexpected repair bill?  Maybe it was a sprained ankle.  Perhaps it was the sudden onset of a nasty cold.

The Bible has a few verses about surprises:


​I’ll bet the people of Jericho were surprised when the trumpets blew, and the walls came tumbling down.  Also, I can’t imagine the surprise to Mary when she was told she would bear the Son of God.

We all enjoy a “good” surprise but fear an “unexpected” surprise.  The good news is that we are surrounded by the love of God during that bad surprise episodes.  The Creator is beside us all the time to heal and comfort us.  Confidently looking to God for help while facing bad times is the very basis of our faith.  Psalm 138:7 is a beautiful affirmation of faith:
