“Forgiveness is the best form of love”; With a song in my heart; thoughts from our music director, Rick Roberts.
Good Wonderful Wednesday,
Our quote of the week today is a very important one:
“I believe forgiveness is the best form of love in any relationship. It takes a strong person to say they’re sorry and an even stronger person to forgive.” – Yolanda Hadid
I must admit that I have had a hard time to be forgiving on occasion. To be slighted by someone is hurtful. To be slighted by a close friend is hurtful and disappointing. To be slighted by a loved one is hurtful, disappointing and unbearable. I call these the “three degrees of letdown”. So, are there degrees of forgiveness? Are there such things as a little forgiveness, or grudging forgiveness, or unconditional forgiveness?

I have found that being unwilling to forgive to be detrimental to me. It causes sustained hate, hard feelings, and can lead to broken friendships and relationships.
The scourge of being unforgiving is heightened when you come in contact with the offender. This is not good. Suddenly, your thoughts of good are impaired and lowered to the level of However, when I forgive, I feel better about myself. The bondage of “holding a grudge” goes away. The wound of hate is healed, and peace takes its place. Ephesians 4:32 is a prime example of our duty to forgive: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” |
I believe that you have encountered this same situation at some time or other in your life. Yolanda Hadid’s words are “right on”. But there is another quote that exemplifies the healing power of forgiveness:
“As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn’t leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I’d still be in prison.” – Nelson Mandela
How True!
Have a blessed day.
With a song in my heart,
Rick
