We Prepare to Hear the Word

*CALL TO WORSHIP

We have been called to walk the faithful road

   and to choose the way of Christ Jesus.

We are here to give witness to our faith

   and to seek direction along this journey of faith.

Come together then, to be God’s people.

   Follow Christ and listen for the promptings of the Spirit.

And may we share with others the goodness we have found in God,

   and the way, and the truth, and the life we have found in Jesus!

*HYMN OF PRAISE, #157            I Danced in the Morning                       LORD OF THE DANCE

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Christ, our way, our truth, our life: You have shown us the way, so clearly and fully.

You have not simply told us how to live, you have shown us. But we still don’t get it.

We do not believe all you have said to us; we do not trust the way you have shown us.

Forgive us and help us, O God. Open our ears to your truth, open our eyes to your way, and lead us into new life. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON                                                                                1 Peter 2:9-10

We are called not to be fearful, we are called to love;

we are not called to be perfect, we are called to be faithful;

we are not called to be fearless, we are called to be obedient;

we are not called to be all knowing, we are called to believe;

we are not call to claim, we are called to give;

we are not called to be victorious, we are called to be courageous;

we are not called to lord it over others, we are called to serve others.

For it is in serving that we shall reign;

it is through courage that we shall find victory;

it is through giving that we shall gain all;

it is in believing that we shall find certainty;

it is in obedience that we shall overcome;

it is in loving that we shall dispel fear;

it is through faithfulness that we shall find perfection;

it is in slavery to Christ and his justice that we shall find freedom,

   now and forever, for ourselves and for the world.  Amen.
