Hurricane Preparedness message from Pastor Bob
Good afternoon, Fort King family,
As Hurricane Helene rapidly approaches, I want to let you know that I am praying for you, and your Congregational Care Team is looking out for you!
Helene is rapidly intensifying into a major storm, and Thursday it should be passing by; even if it misses us, it can still have a significant impact. That’s why we ask that you be as prepared as possible. Bring in any loose or light items from the yard; tighten up your house – windows and doors – as best you can; make sure you have food and water for a few days on hand, as well as necessary medications, restock your flashlights and batteries in case the power goes out, and it’s also a good idea to gas up your car, and make sure your phone is charged up. For a more complete checklist, click on the following link: After a Hurricane: Safety Checklist
Fort King has a number of “callers,” so someone may have already reached out to you to see if you have any specific needs, and they may check in with you after the storm to make sure you are safe. I would ask that you do the same -call your friends, family, and neighbors because we’re all in this together.
If you lose power, contact the church office, a member of the Congregational Care Team, one of the Session members, or me directly. If the power is on here at the Church, you are always welcome to use the Fellowship Hall as a Cooling Center.
I offer the following prayer from the PCUSA Book of Worship, as a prayer for all of us to pray:
God of the ages, you have always been faithful to your people.
Come to us now, we pray!
Give comfort and courage to those who are anxious and scared.
Give strength and skill to those who are working to prepare and protect.
Give us your peace that passes all understanding
in anticipation of times of shock and sorrow,
and open our eyes, hearts, and hands
to the movements of your Spirit,
that we might be comforted and comfort others
in the name of Christ, our healer and our light. Amen.
Peace in deed,
-Pastor Bob
