“I didn’t realize how bad of a driver I was until my navigation system said,  “In 400 feet, do a slight right, stop, and let me out.” (Readers Digest).  With a song in my heart; thoughts from our music director, Rick Roberts.

Good Monday morning everyone,

What a wonderful worship experience yesterday!  It was good to have the choir back in the loft to lead us in our singing.

Being Monday, let’s start the week with a joke:

I didn’t realize how bad of a driver I was until my navigation system said,
“In 400 feet, do a slight right, stop, and let me out.” (Readers Digest)

I have a navigation system in my car.  I call her “Stella”.  She has a great memory, can tell me where to go (in a polite way), and even advises me when I make a mistake – “Recalculating”.  She will unrelentingly keep saying this until you follow her instructions.  And by gosh, you better heed her directions or else!

JoAnne and I have been talking about journeys.  This came about with my discussion of “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah”.  She shared with me that “journeys have been a favorite spiritual theme for me”.  As a result, we shared songs about journeys, such as: “Rolling on a River”, “Exodus”, “Country Roads”, “Leaving on a Jet Plane”, and many more.  I countered with “Follow the Yellow Brick Road, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and “Sentimental Journey”.  Its been fun.

Back to “Stella”.  She is not always right.  Hard to believe, but she can “steer you wrong”.

There is a wonderful way for us to travel in this life.  It is the greatest “manual” of instruction and direction at our disposal.  You got it:  the Bible.  For instance:

“There, by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask Him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions.”  Ezra 8:21

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11

“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;” Psalm 119:105

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5 & 6

As I said, I like “Stella”, but I TRUST our Creator and His word.

Have a blessed day, and with a song in my heart,

Rick
