Interruptions and distractions… With a song in my heart; thoughts from our music director, Rick Roberts.
Good morning, fellow believers,
Friday is here and it is time to kick off the weekend with a crazy item.
Did you know that in 1959, Volkswagen made a dashboard-mounted coffee maker? No kidding! According to “Cracked, Now You Know”, the Hertella-Auto Kaffeemaschine could be mounted straight onto the dash of the “Beetle”. It came equipped with porcelain cups which could stick to the machine magnetically.

I can’t think of anything more distracting than to fix a cup of coffee, with cream and sugar, while driving on Interstate 75. Can you imagine?
The other day, I was making my way to Walmart and what did I see? A young lady piloting her car with her knees! She had one hand holding a coffee mug and the other hand held a cell phone. No kidding! And, men, you’re just as bad. I witnessed a young man with a computer tablet on the dash that he was perusing while eating what appeared to be a donut with the other hand. I can tell you I got just as far away from them I could.

We go through life with interruptions and distractions. Working on a project and we have to stop to answer the doorbell. Reading a good book and the dog demands to go for a walk. Perhaps it’s cooking supper, the phone rings and oops, the roast burns. It happens to all of us. We’re human, after all.
Our salvation is that God is never, ever distracted. God never turns away from us. God is focused on our triumphs and our failures. Our gains and our losses. Our joys and our sadness. Psalm 121:8 affirms God’s role in our lives: “The LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” In closing, if you do any of the bad driving habits I mentioned above telling me that “God is my co-pilot”, you better let Him ride with me. See you Sunday With a song in my heart, Rick |
