Good morning,
WOW! Woke up several times during the night with weather alerts warning of tornadoes, and still receiving them. Be vigilant and stay safe. It’s “Thoughtful Thursday” and here is something to ponder: “When life isn’t a bed of roses, remember who wore the thorns.” (Alden Presbyterian Church) This quote was on the sign of Alden Presbyterian in Alden, New York. I would have liked to have heard the sermon. I enjoy growing roses. Their beauty, colors and fragrance are pleasing to my senses. They require a lot of attention, loving care, sometimes require a special “diet”, and just the right amount of water. But, to my dismay, no matter what I do, some have a hard time and they do not flourish. One of my rose bushes is a “Seven Sisters”. The roses bloom in small bouquets of seven roses. It is a bush type rose and is a delight to behold. But it has the sharpest and biggest thorns you can ever imagine. Pruning is a potential stabbing and bleeding endeavor. Yeow! Like the sign said, our lives are not always a “bed of roses”. Illness, disappointment, broken relationships, and other difficulties sometime invade. It often causes us to feel sorry for ourselves or inadequate. Woe is me! Our Saviour endured the crown of thorns. The pain had to be unbearable. He did it for us so that we may be comforted in our times of trial. Christ did it for us so that we can thrive and be embraced by His love for us. The Saviour did it for the promise of eternal life, basking in the garden of heaven where we will be beautiful forever! Remember the thorns…….ponder on that, if you will. With a song in my heart, Rick |
