Missions Ministry – June-July 2024
The members of the Mission Ministry would first like to thank everyone who participated in our underwear drive for Kimberly’s Center. This month we would like to highlight our Fair Trade mission. Each month on the first Sunday, Steve sets up and sells fair trade products whose profits go back directly to the farmers. “When farmers organize into co-ops, they gain crucial market access, run their business democratically and decide together how to invest in their communities.” Isn’t that a worthy mission? We all appreciate your support.
In June, we will join with the children at VBS to bring food for the Interfaith food pantry. We will be targeting those items that they use the most and run out of the fastest. We ask that you bring: canned meats (tuna, chicken, etc.) canned fruits, canned soup, canned or dried beans, spaghetti sauce, and peanut butter. Bookmarks with the desired list are available at church in June. Please help us help those in need.
Missions Ministry – November 2023
MISSION’S MESSAGEOctober was a busy month for the Mission group.
Kimberly’s Center We supply Kimberly’s Center with gas cards every two months so that the children are able to return to the Center for their therapy sessions. We delivered $150 (10 cards at $15 each) for this month.
First Responders On the 17th and 18th of October, there were deliveries of 16 trays of treats and granola bars to local First Responders (fire and police stations). The recipients are always so appreciative and we, in turn, provide a letter to each location from Pastor Jo Anne. We make sure when we present the treats that we let the First Responders know how thankful we are and how much we depend on them.
Book Drive and Literacy Night at Wyomina Park Elementary School On Friday, October 27th, some of our members attended a literacy event for parents and students at Wyomina Park. Our church collected over 500 new and slightly used books for ages Pre-K through Fifth grade and we donated the books at this time. Each book has a label that indicates it was donated by Ft. King PC. We continue to collect the books all year so we can have enough volume to handle the entire school.
CURRENT NEEDS Our request for you this month is to help us collect pudding cups/money to support Food 4 Kids Backpacks. These items/money are donated to Interfaith Emergency Services for their distribution to the families in need. Mission can shop for you if you would like to donate any amount of money. (Cases at Sam’s are $8 each).
Ft. King is such a LOVING and GENEROUS church and we in Mission appreciate this congregation and friends to no end. Please join us if you have a continuing interest in our programs or if you would like to suggest new ones for us.
Mission Members: Sally Layendecker (chairman), Judith Bullen, Nell Clegorne, Lorraine Fuller, Steve Layendecker, Sue Thomas, and Elena Whitaker. Our own Pastor Jo Anne is very active with our meetings and activities, as her time permits.
SPECIAL OFFERINGS PC(USA)
Congratulations Fort King. Together we contributed $1,295.00 to the special offering for Peace and Global Witness. This is approximately 500 more dollars than we collected last year. The funds will be used locally (25% to be given to peace projects in Ocala as decided by our session) and nationally and internationally. It’s hard to think of a time when the world has been in more dire need of peace and peacemakers both at home and abroad. Thank you for your participation in this offering.
