News You Need to Know! – (09-21-25)

Happy Friday Fort King Family,

Here’s the News You Need to Know this weekend!

Wrapping Up our 60th Anniversary Celebration

Let me take a moment to say that last weekend’s 60th Celebration was wonderful!  There are too many people to thank – this truly was an All-Church effort – but  special shout-outs to Joanne Parramore and her team for planning such a wonderful weekend; Chris Berryhill, the Property Team and all the Helpers at the Work Day helping us get ready for company; Judith Bullen, Andy Stracuzzi and their design team for publishing such a beautiful commemorative booklet; Margaret Spontak’s outstanding article about our church for the local paper; John Leschak and the Chancel Choir for their inspiring music; Joe Tyler and his band of brothers for handling the overflow crowds; Bernice Henry and her team for the Fellowship Luncheon that capped everything off!  To each and every person who participated in our 60th Anniversary Homecoming Weekend, Thank You, and I’m proud of you all!

So, what are we going to do this week? …  I’m so glad you asked!

A new Crossroads Class begins at 9:00 a.m.  This Fall Crossroads will begin a most unique study of the life of Jesus, based on the new book by Elaine Pagels entitled, “Signs and Wonder: The Historical Mystery of Jesus.”  What is the story behind the stories we know from the Gospels, what may have really happened, and what does it mean for us today.

This week during Worship, 10:300 a.m. in person and online, I will be addressing the hyper-partisanship that characterizes our current political climate, and suggest a better way forward, one modeled on the way of Jesus.  Join us this week for “The Politics of Compassion.”

The Share Table will be set up after worship, so be sure to stop by afterwards, and pick out that something you didn’t know you needed!  And if you have any “treasures” you would like to donate, please bring those with you to share.

Art4All is this Sunday from 2:00-5:00 p.m.  Come and explore your creative side (yes, of course you have one!) in a warm and inclusive environment with other fun and creative people!

Our Blessing of the Animals Service will be next week!  At this service we will give thanks to God for the animals who share our world, our homes and our hearts!  If you have a special furry friend you would like prayed for, we encourage you to bring their picture hold up during the service, and/or email their picture to the church office (fkpc@ftkingchurch.org) for inclusion on a worship slide.

The Congregational Meeting originally scheduled for this Sunday, has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 5th.  At this meeting we will elect the members of the Pastoral Nominating Committee.

Anne MacKay’s Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 18th at 10:00 at Fort King, with a reception in the Fellowship Hall to follow.

You are invited to join our Mid-Week Bible Study, “Romans (for Normal People”) every Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.

See you Sunday!
