News You Need to Know! – for Sunday, February 1st

Good morning Fort King Faithful, Here’s (Some)

of the News You Need to Know this Weekend!

Statement from the Session

Earlier this week, a Statement from the Session was emailed out to you. Entitled “A Call to Justice and Compassion,” it was written by a group of elders and approved by the entire Session of your church this week in the wake of the tragic deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, and the escalating fear and outrage over the violent crackdown on the immigrant community (undocumented or otherwise), and those who have protested their actions. This Statement is again attached to this email, and we ask that you to prayerfully read it, and if so inclined share it with others. There will be an opportunity this coming Sunday for you to ask questions and share your comments with members of the Session.

This Sunday at Fort King

We continue our current sermon series, “On the Mountain with the Messiah,” this week focusing on Jesus’ words on the twin topics of wealth and worry, and focusing on our heart’s true treasure. Worship is at 10:30 a.m., in person and online (Zoom link will be shared in a separate email). I hope you’ll join us!

Prior to worship I encourage you to attend our Crossroads Class at 9:00 a.m. We will be finishing up our current study, “Living Buddha, Living Christ,” where we have been learning more about the Buddhist tradition, and the points of connection to our own Christian tradition.

Next Sunday is Scout Sunday!

We’re grateful for the Scouts and leaders who enrich our church and community, and we look forward to celebrating their service during worship next week! Before the service begins, the Scouts will host a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser in the Fellowship Hall. Come early, enjoy a delicious meal, and support their good work. All are welcome!

Night of Italy

Celebrate Valentine’s Day at the “Night of Italy” Dinner on Saturday, February 14th. Tickets are $12.50/person, and may be purchased this Sunday at church. All profits from the dinner will support a variety of ministries in our community and region.

Ash Wednesday Service

We will mark the beginning of the Season of Lent with a Noontime Ash Wednesday Service on Wednesday, February 18, from 12:15–12:45 p.m. This brief, reflective service offers space for prayer, scripture, and the imposition of ashes as we enter this holy season together. All are invited to attend.
