News You Need to Know – Good Friday and Easter Weekend
Good Friday, Fort King Family –
Here’s the News You Need to Know
for this Easter weekend!
Why do we call Good Friday “Good”?
Today is Good Friday, one of the most sacred days of the Christian calendar. On this day we remember that Jesus offered his life in an act of love that changed the world. It is a solemn day, yet the Church calls it “good” because through the Cross God brings healing, forgiveness and hope. For your personal meditation, read any of the following: Psalm 22, Isaiah 53, Matthew 27.
Here is a prayer for Good Friday:
Holy God, on this solemn day we stand in the shadow of the cross, remembering the love that held Jesus there for our sake. In his suffering, draw near to all who suffer; in his faithfulness, strengthen our faith; in his surrender, teach us trust. May the mystery of this day deepen our gratitude and lead us toward the hope of resurrection. Amen.
Easter “Egg-Stravaganza!”
Invite your grandchildren or neighborhood children, and join us for our annual Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Party on Saturday, April 4th, from 9:30 a.m.-12:00 noon. In addition to an Easter Egg Hunt on the church grounds, we will also have a variety of arts and crafts, holiday games, and plenty of prizes and candy for everybody, concluding with a light luncheon for all in attendance. Hope to see you there!
Easter Sunday at Fort King!
“The Day of Resurrection! Earth tell it out abroad; the Passover of Gladness, the Passover of God!”
Join us this Sunday, April 5th at 10:30 a.m., as we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord! We will begin our service with the always lovely tradition of “Flowering the Cross.” We will proclaim the Good News of our Lord’s victory over death and God’s promise of abundant and eternal life through Scripture, Song, and Sacrament. We will take up the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering and dedicate our Lenten Food Drive. And we will conclude our morning festivities with a Fellowship time after the service! Share the joy, and bring a friend!
