The trials you may face will strengthen your faith; With a song in my heart; thoughts from our music director, Rick Roberts.
Good Finally Friday!
I am going to write a controversial devotion today. The confession I make may lead to kind ridicule and “ribbing”. I don’t have any other way to say it, so here goes:
I LOVE FRUITCAKE!
The dense cake delightfully filled with candied fruit and nuts. I love the cherries and pecans. I relished each morsel of the delicious treat with ever so much care and love. I nearly weep when it is gone. The Christmas treat was one of the best gifts I ever received. Each year for several years, I anxiously waited for my dear Aunt Libby’s (Cundiff) gift of a homemade fruitcake. Lovingly made, presented with a big red bow, I would carefully make the first slice and enjoy. Manna from heaven!
I can only dream of Aunt Libby’s annual treat since she is in heaven. But the memory still excites the taste buds. Now, I depend on Claxton to make fruitcake. Not as good as my aunts, but a close facsimile.
I should move on because I want to talk about what we say may be detrimental or harmful. Consider this statement:
I know Johnny did not mean for the fruitcake industry to nearly collapse when he made this statement on his TV program “The Tonight Show”. The fact is the sales of fruitcake dramatically plummeted. The statement cut like a hot knife thru butter. Of course, it was not a true statement. But the damage was done.
The Bible has something to say about matters like this one:
Those are some strong words. I certainly do not mean to imply we are guilty of any wrongdoing. I mean, however, to point out that we could be victims of others. But there is hope if we experience such a travesty:
Now, I think I’ll have a piece of fruitcake with my morning coffee.
Have a blessed day and see you Sunday.
With a song in my heart,
Rick
