With a song in my heart… Meditations by our Music Director Rick Roberts. 10-3-2023 (posting a day later, sorry). “Sweet Hour of Prayer”
|
Laura’s rendering of “Sweet Hour of Prayer” this past Sunday was inspiring and, to put it simply, was sweet. The hymn was written by William B. Bradbury.
William B. Bradbury (1816-1868) was an American composer of Gospel songs and hymns. He wrote the music for such familiar hymns as “He Leadeth Me,” Holy Bible, Book Divine,” “Jesus Loves Me,” “Just As I Am,” Saviour Like a Shepherd Lead Us,” “Sweet Hour of Prayer,” and “The Solid Rock.” The title, “Sweet Hour of Prayer” is so meaningful to me. It validates what the results of prayer can be. I have noticed from an early age, that my prayers left me at peace. When I was frustrated, prayer calmed my frustration. When I was sick, prayer eased the pain and discomfort. When I was concerned about others, prayer satisfied me that all was going to be ok. I could go on and on. Prayer has always put me in a better place, elevated my spirit, and left me with a “peace that passes all understanding”. I am thankful to have these conversations with our Creator. My prayer today is for you, our church, and for a better world. With a song in my heart, Rick |
