We Prepare to Hear the Word

*CALL TO WORSHIP Acts 1:6-11
The disciples gathered around Jesus and asked,
Lord, is this the time you will restore the kingdom?
We come with our own questions, longing for your reign to be made visible.
Jesus replied, It is not for you to know the times or seasons the Father has set.
We trust the wisdom of God, whose timing is sure and whose purposes are good.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, Jesus said.
Send your Spirit upon us, Lord, that we may bear your life and truth.
And you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in Judea and Samaria,
and to the very ends of the earth.
Make us your witnesses, Lord in this community,
and wherever you send us.
Then Jesus was lifted up before their eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
We worship the risen and ascended Christ, exalted yet still with us.
As they stood looking into the sky, two angels said, Why do you stand staring upward? Turn our eyes from the sky to the world you love, where your mission continues.
This same Jesus, taken from you into heaven, will come again.
We worship with hope, awaiting the day when Christs glory fills all things.

*HYMN OF PRAISE, #634 To God Be the Glory Fanny Crosby

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
We confess, O God, that too often we have our head in the clouds.
We are more comfortable dreaming of the world as we wish it would be
instead of working with you to bring that wish to reality.
Other times we find it difficult to claim the power you have given us.
Surely you have others more capable to be your witnesses?
And so, we continue to gaze heavenwards.
Jolt us out of our complacency, O God.
Remind us to get a move on! Remind us we have work to do with you.
Give us your energy, courage, and vision to be your witnesses here in Ocala,
and to the very ends of the earth! Amen.

*RESPONSE #634 To God Be the Glory Refrain
